Tijuani Phelps-Jackson, PhD
Bio
Dr. Tijuani Phelps Jackson's academic journey reflects her dedication and passion for
education and knowledge. She earned a BA in Speech Communication and an M.Ed. in
Counselor Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She continued her education at
Duquesne University, where she completed a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies for K-12
School Counselor Certification. She earned a Ph.D. in Community Engagement and Leadership
from Point Park University, and her quantitative study examined the transformative impact of
travel on Black girls and women. Tijuani is an Impact Arizona Fellow with the Arizona State
University Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD). In this role, her efforts focus
on relationship-building, programming, research, and writing that address critical issues in public
health, race and racism, environmental challenges, civil rights, and educational equity.
Dr. Phelps Jackson is deeply committed to community service. She gained invaluable
experience and honed her interpersonal and leadership skills while facilitating community groups
focused on grief, race, and equity in Pittsburgh and Phoenix. Her volunteer work with
organizations such as The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh and Metropolitan Phoenix; Girl Scouts of
Greater Pittsburgh and the Arizona Cactus Pine Council; The Highmark Caring Place; and the
Senior Usher Ministry at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Phoenix, along with her service on the
Eloise and Edith Christian School Board, First Friday Read-In at Bethune Elementary School,
and as a Life Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., an international service organization,
reflects her dedication to community service. Dr. Phelps Jackson fully embraces a quote by
Shirley Chisholm: “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”
