Inaugurated in 2014, Delivering Democracy has become one of the most anticipated annual events at ASU and in the communities of which the university and the center are a part. The program invites us all to consider the nature of democracy and the subtle, explicit, historic and contemporary issues that shape this essential national ideal. Delivering Democracy features visionary individuals who challenge the traditional boundaries of democratic ideals and address key challenges that emerge around issues of race and democracy. The CSRD envisions Delivering Democracy as a safe and inclusive space that enables us to overcome polarization and division. Join us for a memorable afternoon that provides an invaluable opportunity to enhance our shared understanding of the roots and possibilities of democratic striving.

John Quiñones is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist, writer and producer whose accomplishments and lifestory confirm the life-changing power of education, the importance of family and the impact that ethical behavior and human kindness can have in our communities.
Known and deeply respected for his more than 30-year career at ABC News, his role as anchor for the programs 20//20 and Primetime, John Quiñones has paved the way for countless journalists and broadcasters. He has broken barriers in and beyond the workplace, won the highest accolades and recognition from his peers and professional community, and become a true exhorter and role model for many in and beyond the United States.
A native of San Antonio, Texas whose family has lived in the United States for six generations, Quiñones’ early life included travelling with his family to work alongside migrant farmworkers in Michigan and Ohio. Quiñones was admitted to an Upward Bound program at his Texas high school and from that moment forward his academic journey gained substantial momentum. He went on to earn an undergraduate degree in speech communication and earned his MA degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
John Quiñones is celebrated for his pathbreaking work in journalism which continues to inform millions about the power of investigative and documentary journalism, contemporary crises and our individual and collective capacity to do good in the world.
