A native of Florida who grew up in the African American Geechee culture, Jualynne Dodson has done extensive cutting-edge research in Cuba for the last 20 years on issues of culture and religion of African descendents in the Americas. Her recent book Sacred Spaces and Religious Traditions of Oriente Cuba is based on years of field research in the eastern provinces of Cuba.
